Japanese wedding wig and headdress. These traditional pieces are unique and authentic-looking.
Unlike most wigs, that are usually floppy and soft, this one is rock solid. Japanese brides say that it feels like wearing a helmet, but at the same time, it’s actually not that uncomfortable.
The headpiece is called "wataboshi," which literally means cotton hat. Before becoming a headdress for weddings, the "wataboshi" was actually just a warm winter hat. With a custom to cover the bride’s face for only the groom to see until after ceremony, the "wataboshi" with its large shape became a part of the wedding kimono.
