I love it when people use traditional costumes for a wedding. They are gorgeous. In most cultures, some brides and grooms use folk clothes for the wedding ceremony, even these days.

Today, many brides around the world choose wedding dresses with the folk motifs of their countries (or the countries of their grooms) instead of the ordinary white wedding dresses. In Asia, the percentage of brides who prefer the folklore costumes is especially high.

We offer you several photos and an article on this topic: Gorgeous wedding dresses in Asia with folk motifs (http://nationalclothing.org/171-gorgeou ... otifs.html).

Norwegian bunad as a wedding dress. The headgear is extraordinary – it is large crown-shaped headdress, very ornate, and tied under the chin with a red ribbon.

Comparatively simple but bright and pretty wedding attire from Zhytomyr region of Ukraine (northern part of the country), late 19th – early 20th century. The shirt has a lot of red&black embroidery; the pattern is a bit unusual.

Ukrainian traditional bridal clothing. It consists of an embroidered shirt, a navy blue skirt and bodice called “kersetka”, an embroidered apron, a woven belt, a wedding wreath, and jewelry pieces. The garments are vintage, while the headdress and necklaces are modern replicas.
The snow-white wreath is made from wax beads, artificial flowers, and decorative springs. It has long wines made from wire and wax beads that go down the front of the bride’s body – they serve as a decoration.
Also, you can see many rows of necklaces with coral, stone, fake pearls, and metal beads. One neckpiece is sporting a silver pendant called “dukach” that hangs on a velvet ribbon. Such pendants were traditionally made of coins and were typical Ukrainian jewelry, very popular among local women.

Vintage bride’s costume from Poltava region (central Ukraine), late 19th – early 20th century. The wreath and necklace are modern. Notice that a hand-embroidered towel (called “rushnyk” in Ukraine) is used as a belt – it was traditional for brides to do that.
