Real clothing of American Pilgrims. Their wardrobe included red velvet, deep V-waistline, and fashionable doublets. Surface decoration included applied grade fringe, also decorative wings or piccadilly to disguise the removable and reversible sleeves, expensive linen puffy shirts with shell buttons doubling as nightshirts, all topped off with a dignified colonial cap.

Pretty day dress of American Civil War period
This fabric has been dyed with indigo, the natural means of achieving a blue color. The resulting color is deeper, yet less intense than the blues achieved with newer synthetic dyes. The yellow and white floral sprigs are applied in areas that have not been printed with blue, in a technique called “resist printing”. These undyed areas must be treated with a substance, such as wax, that resists dye.
The cut and design of the dress is modest and comfy.
